SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF ABUSE OR ASSAULT

Abuse and assault are unacceptable and incompatible with high standards of professional and personal discipline. Abusive behavior by DON personnel destroys lives, detracts from military performance, negatively affects the efficient functioning and morale of military units, and diminishes the reputation and prestige of the military service in the civilian community.

FFSC provides support to victims through these programs:

  • Family Advocacy Program (FAP)

  • Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR)

National Resources

National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) 
NOVA's mission is to champion dignity and compassion for those harmed by crime and crisis. Founded in 1975, NOVA is the oldest national victim assistance organization. NOVA's website provides links to crime victim compensation links and crime victim rights, including addressing financial crimes and emotional trauma. There is a State Compensation List from which victims of crime can obtain guidance and information pertinent to their state.

Office for Victims of Crime
This Office of Justice Program has publications on a variety of topics relevant to victims of crime, including crime victim services, crime victimization, health, international issues, legal resources, specific populations, and victim advocacy, as well as publications specifically addressing sexual violence.

Local Resources
Florida Crime Victims' Services
Victims of crime, and oftentimes lawful representatives, have rights regarding compensation and procedure, including being heard and present at criminal proceedings. These rights are laid out in accordance with states' guidelines.
